Piazza della Repubblica was named as such in 1955 and since then has been home to the municipal palace, which underwent renovation in 2007, giving the square its current appearance. On the occasion of the new design, the “Column of Hope” was erected, a ceramic work from Castelli by artist Vincenzo Di Giosaffatte that lists the names of mayors from 1860 to 2007, paying tribute to the history and tradition of the city. The square is a reference point for many events and performances throughout the year, such as concerts, festivals, and markets, and is also surrounded by historical and communal commercial activities.
It’s worth noting the presence of a red bench in memory of Ester Pasqualoni, a fellow citizen and victim of femicide, as a way to raise awareness of such important and timely issues.
