The Porta da Borea is located to the north of the village of Montepagano, where the cold winds blow from, from which it takes its name. It used to be the place for collecting customs duties.
The structure, built with exposed brick and stone, blends perfectly with the adjacent ancient palace. It features a rounded arch on the south side and a lowered pointed arch on the north side, reinforced internally with a wooden beam. The coat of arms of the Acquaviva di Atri, depicting a rampant lion, who were uncontested lords of much of the Adriatic Abruzzo for several centuries, is positioned above the pointed arch. Originally, the coat of arms was blue armed and langued red on a golden background.
