The exact date of construction of the Fountain cannot be determined with certainty, but there are documents referring to renovation and maintenance works. However, it is likely that the spring has been in use since around the 11th century, during the phase that led to the birth of Montepagano.
Like many villages of that era, Montepagano was built near a water source. The Fountain consists of three main parts, each serving a specific purpose. The first fountain on the left provides drinking water, while the trough for livestock is located in an adjacent niche. The washhouse, consisting of a covered stone basin, was used by women to wash clothes.
