For Roseto - indeed for all areas in the Abruzzo region - food and wine are a huge attraction for tourists and great food lovers. Its vineyards and olive groves produce prestigious wines and oils and the valleys and fields given over to pasture favour the rearing of livestock that produces top quality meat. Numerous products from the Abruzzo region have obtained international certification with DOC (for Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and Cerasuolo wines), POD (for Aprutino Pescarese Extra-virgin Olive Oil and saffron from Aquila) and PGI (for tender white beef of the central Apennines and lamb of central Italy) labels being awarded.

Here are some typical dishes visitors might find being served in the area’s restaurants and agritourisms that mirror the eating habits of all locals:

  • handmade "alla chitarra" spaghetti
  • "scrippelle 'mbusse" - crepes in broth
  • "arrosticini" - skewered meat
  • "mazzarelle" - lettuce leaves stuffed with offal
  • fish soup (especially on the coast)
  • "parrozzo" - chocolate-covered cake
  • "pizza dogge" - a sort of trifle.

Prestigious wines include:

Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Colline Teramane (DOCG), Trebbiamo d’Abruzzo, Pecorino, Passerina, Chardonnay, Pinot bianco, Pinot grigio, Sangiovese and Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon.

Quality products include (PGI and POD):

Saffron from Aquila, olive oils from the hills of Teramo and Chieti, small ‘cacciatora’ salamis, carrots from Fucino plateau, clams, beef from the white bullock breed and lamb.

Cheeses are also popular and the best-known include “marcetto” and sheep’s-milk ‘pecorino’ from Atri and Farindola.
