Früher als Kirche Santa Filomena bekannt, wurde sie nach 1961, als die Congregazione dei Riti die Heilige aus dem liturgischen Kalender strich, der Santa Maria Assunta gewidmet. In diesem Jahr wurde Maria Himmelfahrt zur neuen Schutzpatronin von Roseto.
Die Kirche wurde 1857 als einschiffige Kirche erbaut, am Ende derer sich der Presbyterialbereich befindet, der vom Rest durch zwei aufeinanderfolgende Spitzbögen getrennt ist und von einer sechseckigen Kuppel überragt wird. Die Kirche hat ein Satteldach, und an ihrer Fassade befindet sich ein steingerahmtes Portal mit einem Rundbogen, über dem eine Lünette angebracht ist, in der sich ein Mosaik befindet, das die Herabkunft des Heiligen Geistes auf die Mutter Gottes darstellt.
Der auf einem quadratischen Grundriss stehende Glockenturm und die achteckige Laterne verleihen der Kirche ein elegantes und imposantes Erscheinungsbild. Im Inneren ist die Kirche mit mehreren Werken von lokalen Künstlern geschmückt. Zu den bedeutendsten Werken zählt „Die Heilige Familie“ des renommierten Malers Pasquale Celommi.
